A "hot" security patch downloads without shutting down and restarting a computer. Corporate network administrators prefer to control the installation of a security patch rather than allow software companies unlimited access to their networks for automated patch applications. Administrators also prefer to delay patch applications until they have had the opportunity to test patch stability. Consumers primarily go for automated security patch downloads. "Software regression" initially meant regression to a previously incorrect state after the download of a damaged security patch meant for a separate issue entirely.
